Sean was born in Washington D.C. The youngest of four, he was raised in Silver Spring/Olney Maryland and graduated from Sherwood High School. He moved west and graduated from UCLA four years later. Sean studied and performed at the famed Groundlings Theater. He also studied the Meisner technique at Playhouse West.
Sean’s career began with commercials, appearing in spots for Little Ceasar’s Pizza, TJ Maxx, and many others. His most acclaimed commercial was the first GOT MILK? commercial directed by Michael Bay.
His first major film role was in PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS directed by Wes Craven. Other films include, TWISTER, NEVER BEEN KISSED, JURY DUTY, THAT THING YOU DO, MEN IN BLACK, EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH, WATERWORLD, and HALLOWEEN II. He has appeared in independent features including LAID TO REST, PYTHON, and THE FP.
Television offered many comedic and dramatic roles in shows such as NYPD BLUE, MY WIFE AND KIDS, NOWHERE MAN, LOST, and JUST SHOOT ME. He’s also worked on shows for Disney and Nickelodeon and has a recurring role as Carl Ferrett on the soap BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL.
Sean has written several screenplays (one which is currently being produced by Brett Ratner and Jeff Nathanson), TV Pilots, punch up work on several cartoons, and a couple of short films. One short, TURKEY CAKE, which he wrote and directed won the Rehobeth beach film festival. He is currently writing, producing, and directing comedy shorts for his web channel THATGUY – SEAN WHALEN on youtube.
Sean is also getting into the world of independent features as a producer and writer. Being a character actor, Sean has worked in every entertainment genre imaginable.
